Are these farts real?

Yes, every single one. That's why it takes so long to reach 1000 recordings.

Were there any sound effects used?

No, all recordings are unaltered (except for trimming).

Is AI involved?

Only in helping build this website, not in creating the content.

Why was this archive created?

Well, someone had to. There are not enough high-quality fart archives on the internet, most of them are full of fakes.

Also, developing custom Joomla extensions for an audio archive and statistics were an interesting task.

Why are there less than 1000 farts?

The original plan was to produce 1000 farts before publishing the website. But then, enthusiasm took over, and it was launched earlier.

One day, there will be 1000 farts, though. New ones are added as they come out.

Can I contribute?

No. the archive documents the output of a single individual.

Additionally, accepting submissions would create the whole hassle of checking quality and authenticity of the submitted farts, so no thanks.

Who is behind this website?

Someone who prefers to remain undisclosed. Being a flatulence enthusiast is often frowned upon nowadays (while flatulists were quite popular in the Middle Ages).

How were all these farts recorded?

They were all recorded with the iPhone's Voice Memo app. Of course, over time, different iPhones were used. But no special microphones, no soundproof studio. Spontaneous recordings whenever "inspiration" hit.

Can I use these farts for my own projects?

Does this website collect analytics data?

Yes, but only a small amount. A Thousand Farts uses a small self-hosted analytics system. No visitor data is ever sent to Google or another analytics provider, and no analytics cookies are used.

The site records information such as viewed pages, fart plays and downloads, approximate country, browser language, broad browser and device type, and the hostname of an external referring website. It does not store raw IP addresses, complete browser identification strings, full referrer URLs, names, email addresses, or identifiers that follow visitors from day to day. Daily visitors are estimated using a pseudonymous identifier that changes every day.

How do ratings and Fart Boards work without a login?

Your Fart Board is stored in your browser’s local storage, never on our server. It remains available on that particular browser and device, is not tied to an account, and disappears if you clear the website’s stored data. Shared Fart Boards are completely included in the shared link and open as temporary boards, so they do not overwrite your own.

When you rate a fart, your browser creates a random identifier and stores it locally. The server stores only the rating and a cryptographically protected version of that identifier—not the original identifier or your IP address. This allows the same browser to change or remove its rating without requiring an account. The identifier is used only for ratings and is unrelated to the analytics system.
